For instance, do you think that there is any such thing as a lesser evil? Like lying is often looked as O.K. at some times. (Maybe to lie if you were hiding some Jews during WWII) The Bible flat out states, "DO NOT LIE." So ya what do you think?

I was just wondering different views on whether if one sin can be less than another. (Please use a scource not just your head...i am trying to write somthing on this so please think and not just say the first answer that comes to your head.)

Yes.
1 John 5:16-17 - If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.
Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.
A mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.
Most of the sins we commit are venial sins. Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.
However consistent unrepentant venial sins can slowly destroy your relationship with God and become mortal sin.
People die all the time with venial sins on their conscience and they will go to heaven.
With love in Christ.

Yes, some are more heiness than others. Both need the will of the person sinning to be accountable but, some people's will is compromised by things like addiction or provocation and so on. There are venial sins (those that just weaken the body) or the really bad ones are Mortal sins (they kill the body)

A sin is a sin. There are no levels. But...there is a difference between going against man's law and God's law. Man's laws aren't always just or serve the good of man, God's is. Hiding Jews during WWII is an example of Man's law that wasn't just and didn't serve the good of man. Going against that law isn't a sin.

A sin is a sin is a sin...God wants us to not to judge others and that is why He wants us to think that there is not different levels of sins. We might not commit murder but when we lie we are sinners. That is why we have such a great deal with Him, Jesus died for all of our sins, all we have done and all we do and all we will do. We get much more than we deserve. Of course God wants us to recognize our sins and ask forgiveness and then repent.
I had a big issue with a word sin. But now I understand how wonderful gift it is when I do not have to feel the wight of sin. It is so wonderful to be forgiven. That is a great gift of God. You receive it when you ask it. God wants us recognize our sins, and He forgives us.

When I was younger and still attending church the preacher said that littering and murder are equal sins.
I personally think that murder is a lot worse than littering, but I'm pretty sure in the bible it says it doesn't matter the nature of your sin it's still a sin. (obviously not in those exact words).
However a lot of people don't follow that rule, for instance they don't mind telling a lie to get out of something small, but if you have sex before marriage you're going straight to hell.

No sin is acceptable but there are degrees in seriousness. There are mortal sins which cuts you off from God and there are venial sins which don't cut you off but they do offend God. For a mortal sin to occur you must have knowledge that it is a sin and in the light of that knowledge commmit the sin.

Yes, venial sin is thinking of doing something against the 10 commandments and mortal sin is actually doing it. Jesus taught this in His sermon on the Mount. Of course, he didn't use these terms, mortal and venial.

No sin is sin. If its wrong and you do its wrong. You cant say that my lie to your adultery is outweighing one or the other, you have still done it. The world confuses us by making the punishments vary for each crime(sin) we commit but in Gods eyes sin is sin.
