Okay, I know that puritans came here, but they didnt found a country. The country was founded with the constitution and it was founded by DIESTS. Why do we say we are founded on christian principles? They knew if they didnt throw in christian principles that the public wouldnt go for it, same reason why they threw in provisions for slavery.

Well, they say that because they *want you to believe it*. If they can convince everyone that this is true, then they think they have a case for having a Christian base for our laws. And they like to pat themselves on the back for having their religion deeply involved in the establishment of this country.

Interesting thing, though - although certainly many of the Founding Fathers mention "God", they don't mention Jesus. Some of the Founding Fathers were quite critical of Christianity, in fact.

I suspect that "Nature's God" isn't Jesus. I suspect that the folks who insist that this country was founded on Christian principles wouldn't really like to claim "Nature's God" as their own, either, if they think about it. I can make a good case for this "Nature's god" being Pan or Cernunnos.

In other circumstances, someone who says they believe in God, but is critical of Christianity would be soundly rejected as being Christian. You've seen that here.

By their own words here, if you believe in God, but do NOT specifically say you believe in Jesus, you're NOT a Christian.

They love to pick out the comments from the Fouding Fathers that they assert prove that they were all Christians - but for every one they pick, there are probably three that contradict their assertion.

They can't have it both ways. But they'll keep on trying until they get their way, unless we all keep reminding them of their own descriptions of what a Christian is.

Because their definition would NOT include the Founding Fathers.

2 things: all of the founding Fathers were believers in God and when they wrote laws they used a God's conscience to do so

And if we didn't have God in our founding principles then why are there references to Christianity in all of the architecture and writing from that time? Does it make you feel ill at ease to think that God may actually have something to do with this Great Nation we live in

The anonymity that the founding Fathers used was due to the fact that they did not wish to put upon others that which had been put upon them before they left Europe; they wanted to be able to choose whom they worship and when without the "State" or "Government" interfering; if they had put God into any of the actual paperwork that went into putting our government together they would have been no better than the oppressors from which they were running from

Because many christians associate morals and family values with religion. These are actually separate. When governing a people, some laws that are established are based on morals, but when people tie these morals to religion they get the wrong idea that their gov't is based on religion.

You can not believe in God and still have morals and family values

Deists, Atheists, Montheists, Trinitarians,........who CARES what the founding fathers were. Some were on thing, others were other things, wich is WHY they put in freddom of religion.

I agree is was NOT founded on Christianity, but the reason people say it, was because there was a general moral code of conduct behind much of it.
