The legislation authorizing the draft still exists but the Selective Service would need to be re-staffed. A draft could be put into operation in less than a month that worked as well as the last one.
As an example of how well it worked, I was in basic with a fellow who had one arm, and had been drafted. Funny they would take him but none of the sons of the rich or famous had to go to 'Nam.

Currently, the draft is not instated. But everyone at the age of 18 needs to legally register for it. The draft will only be called up in case of an emergency military shortage. Don't expect that to be anytime soon. Currently our military is all volunteer, and that keeps the brightest and most willing soldiers on our battlefields.

No! The United States of America currently has an all-volunteer military. However, discussions are being had by some members of the government as to whether to re-implement a draft.

Yes there is currently a draft how ever what you must understand is that it is not in effect. Once a guy turns 18 his name is automatically registered for the draft. If the draft is ever approved every male between the ages of 18 and 25 will be given a short amount of time to report to the nearest recruiter and will be enlisted. If a guy were to avoid the draft he would be guilty of treason

The laws, organizations (selective service) and procedures for a draft is in place, and males in the US are required to register for the draft when they reach 18 years of age. Females are exempt from this requirement.
There are penalties for not registering, but at present, no one is being called to serve involuntarily.

No, but it is the law for all males over 18 to register with the selective service in case the draft is enacted.
