That's one of those deceptively simple sounding questions. I'll have to look up your other ones.
Short answer; obviously there's a lot of debate on this topic. My personal take was that oddly enough he wanted his message to be heard on it's own merits instead of as an "argument from authority." Ironic, isn't it?
That's why even though I'm what some here scoff at as a "fanatic" I still put the message out there as if it's just a good idea, not a command from above.

He clearly said it; and they took Him out to the edge of the town, intending to throw Him off the cliff (for blasphemy, for claiming that He was God).
But His time was not yet then come.
He just turned and walked away, walking through the midst of the enraged crowd.
Notice, they did not "nailed him up even sooner" because "His hour was not yet come". But in St. John 17, "how is the hour come" ...
Try actually READING the BOOK.

Man-o-man Sho-nuf what is your major malfunction? Were you molested by a priest when you were a kid? Did you mother run away with a Bible salesman or what? All right thinking people of ANY ethical belief escoriate your juvenile attacks, and disabuse themselves of your clearly bigoted insulting opinions.....get a life but I don't hold out much hope for this

HE wasn't afraid to say it. He did, (say he was the Savior and son of God) That is why he was crucified. There is Holy trinity,- The father, Son, And Holy Spirit. And, Prophecy had to be fulfilled.

Its quite simple actually. If he had just gone out and said it the first day of his ministry they would have simple stoned him to death and no one would have heard of him. Jesus needed to build renown before his death.
