slim chance uses a literal interpretation of slim. fat chance uses an ironic interpretation. big difference.

Not exactly.
Slim chance means the person has almost no chance of attaining the wished for outcome.
Fat chance means that you actively hope that the person would fail in attaining the wished for outcome.
