There are two ways. You can stroke it repeatedly with the same pole of a permanent magnet. You can wrap an insulated wire around the metal shaft in a spiral pattern and apply a direct current to the wire. The more times you wrap the wire, the stronger the magnet.

Jamie has the right idea but don't use a bare wire. wrap an insulated wire around the screwdriver and short out a battery with it. if you use a car battery or other strong DC current it will make the screwdriver permanently a magnet. USE CAUTION car batteries produce hydrogen gas and can explode only short it out for less then a second

They sell a small pair of magnets with a hole that accommodates a screw driver shaft, just put it in.
Sold at most hardware stores.

You can turn it into an electromagnet.
Take bare copper wire, coil it around the screw driver's metal shaft, and connect both ends of the wire to a battery, and you have an electromagnet.
