Should I go for an 8.5" or a 10" is there any advantage, or is it purely preference? Are there any particular spects I should look for? Is there anything I should beware of or be aware of?

Best portable dvd player would be the iPod video. It's compact, you don't have to lug around a huge dvd player. And no complications with wires. And you get music, games, and all that other good stuff.

After you buy a new portable dvd player, you will wish you had an iPod. The only thing I could see you having a problem with is the screen size. Yes, the iPod is smaller in screen size, but it has amazing resolution, more than you are going to get out of a portable dvd player. As well, you dont have to lug around your discs, since they are saved to your iPod already.
