I'm Greek and have been to Istanbul twice. Both times all people were nice, friendly and polite. In general I feel like having a lot more things in common with Turks, in terms of culture, way of living etc, than with the rest of Europe. So who on earth are those people who support a stupid rivalry and say we can't be friends???

I am Turkish and I feel home in Greece. Greek people treat me extra well when they learn I am Turkish and you are quite right to feel that we have much more in common than rest of Europeans. I think these two nations have a big potential to make good and strong friends and some other nations may not be willing to accept this.

And once again I must say that if we stop political rivalry lots of arms manufacturing companies will go out of business in Europe and USA and they want to avoid that too.

People like you can make a lot of difference. We should keep telling our people of the positive experience we have in other's country. Most of my friends who have never been to Greece would imagine that Greeks would attack them if they say they are Turkish. I do my best to convince them the other way around.

I hope in couple of generations, Greece and Turkey will build a strong relationship and make these lands the most developed in the world as it was during the ancient Greek civilization or the rise of the Ottoman Empire times.

Everybody wants to be friends and this is they way it should be. Greeks are blamed by some for being nationalistic but this is not the case. Its just that some events which you say must be forgoten and we should move on, but they are really recent .For example my grandmother lived in Constantinople and she was forced to leave her home ,her properties all the things she grew up with. This thing has marked her life.My fathers family came from Pontos and you know what happened there. So if we grow up listening to all these sad stories from the people that actually lived them and not just heard them its kinda hard no to be affected. Anyway i believe we should not forget what happened at both sides but we should learn to forgive and try to move on cause the young generations should not be enemies because of the mistakes of the previous ones. I have been to Constantinople as well and i felt very welcome , its many things and habits that the greeks left there and also many things and habits that the Turks left here as well. The future should only be based on peace and partnership.

I must agree a minimum of in part with fysikaellinida. I have an excessively well buddy of Turkish starting place, however we certainly not cross into politics and historical past... As international locations we will have peaceable however now not pleasant members of the family. It is not only the four hundred years... The loved ones of my grandmother was once slaughtered in Smyrna throughout the Minor Asia disaster. They misplaced loved ones, peers, all their property and needed to go away their house. Although throughout that warfare Greeks had been no saints both, I can not forgive the slaying of hundreds of thousands of Greek defenseless civilians by way of the Turkish navy. A few many years later Turkey invaded Cyprus, many Greek-Cypriots had been killed, many "disappeared" and plenty of had been kicked out in their houses. Turkey does not permit Greece to do study within the Aegean Sea for the oil reserves and threatens with warfare even supposing we strive. Turkey forbids Greece to broaden its countrywide waters from 6 to twelve miles (as all different EU nations have performed nearly a decade in the past) and threatens with warfare. They do not even agree to talk about approximately it. Turkey does now not appreciate the rights of the Orthodox Church in KONSTANTINOYPOLI. Ancient Greek monuments in Minor Asia are many times offered as Turkish. You see it isn't simply the beyond, but in addition the gift and the extrapolation to the longer term which might be forbidding. As a ways because the cultural similarity is worried, there's a few however it's usual. When the Othomans got here from Asia their tradition was once means minimize than that of the Byzantine empire. They spent a couple of centuries pillaging the Eastern side of the empire developing constantly in dimension and force. Thus they followed and assimilated many features of the larger civiliztion with which they got here in touch. Once the Othoman empire was once based, Greece spent four hundred years beneath the Turkish yoke. Is it unusual that we have got a few identical conduct? Also take into account the youngster accumulating. Many "Turkish" humans are actually of Greek starting place, even though they had been raised to think they're "natural" Turks and hate Greeks. History teaches us that those "??????????" had been essentially the most merciless in opposition to the Greeks however had no expertise in their real starting place.

we Turks havent got problem with greeks. i dont read any news about greece i dont watch any news about greece on tv we dont talk about greece when we talk about politics i read short normal little sad history about greeks and greece, greeks came we fighted and they went thats all and about istanbul but we know we have a lot of common things so then turks can be friend with greeks.

but greeks has a lot of paranoias about turks because their politics their history their media. honestly i dont know what is main problem just i have some guesses and honestly i dont think greeks can be friend with turks so then i have to faces for greeks, one of them is friendly for greeks like u, one of them is not friendly which "turk definition in greeks thoughts"

my opinion is every greek have to leave their complexs. because u have got really. u want to understand that what u want, always prejudices. sometimes im thinking "r greek politicas trying hide somethings?" well i dont care really both nations r great but i dont think really we can be good friends and i dont think doing good things for be a friend with greeks
