Oh honey can I ever answer this one...

(Edited to add- of course you need to treat the adult lice to kill them first- and commercial creams don't work like they used to. Try the tea tree oil mentioned below. We used Rid cream at first and I still pulled 11 live ones off of my daughters head! Most had slowed down a little but were still kicking & crawling around plenty!)

To get nits out of the hair, the true best way (tedious, yes) is to go through the hair and pull them out with your fingernails. (Use the comb first) Most nit combs don't work very well, and if you have a child in school with a "no-nit" policy then you need to make sure you get every last one, even if they are dead. Try using good light, section off hair and go through it one thin layer at a time. Picking the layers up and looking at both sides is easiest. If it's your hair, have somebody else do it of course.

Conditioner can make them slide out easier, but some are really hard to get off all the way to the ends of the hair.

Good luck!

Cover the head with Mayonnaise and a plastic bag let sit a minimum of 1 hour to a max of over night wash hair with shampoo with a few drops of tea tree oil repeat the washing until all mayo is out.
condition and use the nit comb. also just to be safe treat all members of the house hold.

Remember Lice is not a sign of bad hygiene or a messy house

good Luck

My younger niece had headlice and this is the best remedy in the world, no matter what anyone says =

Get some pure tea-tree oil (about £5) and put it all over your head and hair. Comb through it with a headlice comb. Do so about every other day, and within two weeks your hair should be nit-free.

Honestly - try it!

my children had lice and i tried them all but to no use
in the end i found this great product called head on
it's an oil that you put in the hair for just 5 mins and comb through with a nit comb
it's so good that when you put the comb through it feels like your geting all the tangles out
but it's really the eggs
my kids have not had lice since i used it
you can buy it on line for a silly price

If you wet the hair, they are easier to see. We also use olive oil on our daughters hair. Soak the hair with olive oil and put a Gladwrap bowl cover on the hair and let it sit in overnight. This will kill any live ones that there might be, because the lice can't breathe . Rub the oil in very well and make sure the cover is sucked onto the hair and get as much hair into the cover as possible.Repeat this about every second night. I also heard if you put vinegar on the hair it is easier to get the nits out. Hope this helps.

you can get them out with conditioner and a comb but it its time consuming. Wash the hair and then put on loads of conditioner and comb through throughly. id do this daily. problem is you could miss the small eggs with this method so its an ongoing thing. you could also try adding teatree oil to the rinse water after shampooing the childs hair. this should discourage the lice in future.

yes put the conditioner on buy a load of cheap conditioner and it takes about a week to get rid of them. i do it with my kids and its good, comb your hair at night as this breaks the nits legs. stop eggs hatching.
