Two reasons for my thinking.

1.If people do good just so they do not go to hell that means they are not truly good and may not deserve heaven.
2.The existence of hell suggests the awesome glory of Heaven is still not enough of a reward to prevent people from incurring the punishment of hell.

The concept of hell is not flawed. Instead we might say that man's conception of hell is flawed.

1. Heaven requires perfection. No one "deserves" heaven. We may do good to try to avoid hell, but you are correct in saying it is never enough.

2. Hell is not just there to scare people. It is a real destination. Heaven in not just place out there as a "reward" to prevent us from going to hell.

The answer is found in the Bible's depiction. Hell is what all people deserve because all have sinned - it is eternal punishment without ceasing. Heaven is where God wants all people to be - it is eternal joy with him forever. God sent Jesus to die innocently to pay the punishment that each of us owes. Therefore, even though we deserve hell, through believing in what Jesus has done, God offers us heaven freely.

When you think of it that way, believing in Jesus is a zero-risk, ultimate-reward situation.

Actually you do good believing Jesus saved you from sin and death. He is the hope of resurrection. Dead people don't go to heaven.

yes, but there are those who say that hell is just the plain old grave and that the second death is when you get burned out off existance by fire from heaven.

The concept of hell is flawed if you believe the lie that it is filled with fire to torture.
There is no fire in hell.
Hell is the grave, 6 feet under.
When Job was seeking relief from his suffering, he requested to be sent to hell? Job 14:13
If hell was a place of torture, why request?
Even Jesus went there. Acts 2:31
When Jesus was resurrected, nobody said he smelled of smoke.

1. A person's "goodness" does not qualify him/her in the least for heaven.
2. There is only one sin that is unforgivable - the sin of rejecting the Holy Spirit - or unbelieving. This will in time allow a person to SENTENCE THEMSELVES to the "limnay poer", which is Greek for "lake of fire".
