How many 'closet Atheists' are there in our Congress?
For all you religionists who are of the mind that one can not be moral without religion, do we need a constitutional amendment to
prevent representation by such individuals?

LOL.

So instead of the first amendment and the "no religious test" part of the original constitution, we'll have an amendment that says "oh boy you better believe in something, Jesus, Xenu from Scientology... something, because if not you won't be a good and moral politician like all of us religious folk.

PS - Politicians are the bestest most moralist people evah!"

Anyway, the small fraction of "religionists" who would support barring atheists from office also want to turn the government into a church run one...

What makes anyone with any religious affiliation any better than anyone else. You are a short sided idiot and can't see outside you're own little world. I am not religious and yet I am one of the most patriotic, caring, responsible, compassionate people you will never meet and am heavily involved in community, school organizations, my children's lives and the lives of other children. I am a rock solid role model and I do all of this without pushing my personal views. I help the poor and donate to charity. You are the epitome of ignorance at work.

Atheists have a more properly developed moral sense than religionists, because it is based on reason and evidence rather than superstition. Thus, the notion of banning such from the Congress is patently absurd, as well as unconstitutional (see last phrase of Article VI).

Just because I'm not affiliated with a religion doesn't mean I'm immoral. Besides, if only 6 people are declared atheists that means that the odds are that most if not all of the 'immoral' representatives are affiliated with a religion.

Simply put, religion doesn't necessarily have anything to do with morals.

The U.S. has a secular government. Religion should not be a criteria that is given any credence in the formation of federal law.

Morality is not derived from religion... as a matter of fact, religion tends to corrupt morality more than anything else.

Would you be kind enought to supply sources and links for this kind of assertion? Who are these folks?

The FACTS are that atheists cannot hold office of any kind in like seven states, nor testify as witnesses.

So the opposite kind of reform should be happening; Those states that deny atheists the ability to old office or serve as witnesses ought to have those laws overthrown.

Ban them, no. 86% of American's believe in God. I think the other 14% of people are roaming through this site trying to tell everyone there is no God. I am thankful there are religious people out there that are willing to stand up for what they believe in. I thank God for them. Hopefully we will see a future of more in Parliament. In Canada, our Prime Minister is Christian.

Have a lovely day!

No, just get them to declare that their religion is not the only true religion and that all other religions (and lack of religion) are equal to their religion. If they refuse, then ban them.
