I practice New Orleans voodoo as my "religion" - it incorporates Catholicism (as I was raised) with voodooism from Haiti and Africa. I alos practice hoodooism, which is not a religion but magick. I got interested after visiting New Orleans, and meeting this wonderful store owner, Anna, at Erzulies. I read up on the topics, and happily converted! I am noticing a lot of people are interested in voodooism and other alternative religions recently. Why do you think this is?

I know for me, traditional religion was either too corrupt or constricting. I find that praying on my own terms is much more realistic and personal to me.

By the way, before you condemn voodooism....do some research first. New Orleans Voodooists do believe in God, Jesus, and the Catholic Saints.

Erzulies! the loa of rain, freshwaters and love!--I love voodoo because it is the least "christianized" pagan religion out there(the syncerticism of the loas and the saints has actually served to protect the original religion)

I considered Satanism due to the belief in one's self as the all powerful and did some research on the subject I also read "The Satanist bible" which is about the ideals and values of the "Movement" which claims that they do not follow Satan but have chosen him as a symbol of the movement because it will p*ss off the "God Botherers" If I were to follow a religious movement that would be my first choice but I prefer to be an atheist and not ally myself with any group that lets their life be governed by someone/thing that no-one can prove exists!

I have been interested in Voodoo, hoodoo and Santeria all my life because I have lived among the practitioners of these beliefs. I grew up in South Florida and lived in New Orleans and still live near-by. I believe it is real and I have respect for it. But I chose Buddhism as it gives me a personal discipline I need. ;-)

As long as they don't kill or harm others or their property, all religions are EQUAL.
