Surely it will give the impression they are married, why do people do it then?

Most women don't. But the ones that do probably want to leave that impression or they have a ring that happens to fit there.

Well, your suppose to wear your college ring on that finger until your married and then you switch it over to the other hand. It's basically an old fashion symbol that you are a successful independent woman. Lot of people use to make comments on it to me....
I think that most woman wear a diamond and a band or both so it's easy to tell the difference on a college or fashion ring from an engagement or wedding band.

As long as it's not a "wedding" ring, there's nothing wrong with wearing a ring on your "wedding" finger if you're single. I used to love to wear rings, and had them on 3 out of 5 fingers on each hand, including the "wedding" finger.

Also, in different countries the wedding ring is worn on different fingers. Where I grew up, it is worn on the ring finger of the right hand, not the left. So, it's all relative. There's no absolute "wedding" finger.

My daughter did that because she did not want to date anyone for a long time and wearing a ring on the wedding finger was one way to keep men out of her life.

A lot of women do this, I am married but don't wear my wedding rings but I do have a ring on that finger. So what is the biggy about it..

I wear a ring on my wedding finger and I'm not married. I try not to wear one that looks like and engagement ring so that people don't get the wrong idea. I just like that finger...it is more comfortable than wearing a ring on the middle finger. Besides...I know people that are married and NEVER wear rings. :) I guess it's just a persona; preference.

A lot of women wear rings on their left hand because they have several rings they want to wear and would rather balance how many rings they have on each hand. Also, many women in committed relationships, though not married, like to wear a ring on that finger to indicate that they are "off the market".

Many women do wear a wedding ring even when the aren't married to avoid harassment. When wearing the ring, most women find they get more respect from male collegues and can go about their lives without warding off guys who are trying to hit on them.

Some women who don't want to be hit on by guys at bars or just in general, will wear a ring on their wedding finger.

Also if you don't pratice wearing a ring on your wedding ring finger you'll mess around with your wedding ring because you're not used to it and you'll be taking it off and putting it back on all the time. I look at it as training myself with a less valuable ring.

Well there's the fact of keep'n thier distance from people in such a way. Wear'n a ring on your wedd'n finger is like tell'n people your married, you have a bf/, or you jus' want people to think that your not in the relationship kinda field, your in the friendship feild. There's different kinds of reasons why people wear a ring on thier wedd'n finger. You jus' gotta ask. some do it cuz of something called "The silver ring thing" which is a program that states "I'm not gonna have sex tell after marrage, they have rings for people to wear to state that they'll wait tell after marrage, there's always the promise ring from the boyfriend or the girlfriend, and there's the people who like to keep thier distance from people jus' cuz they want to. Jus' ask them.

I wear a ring on my wedding finger because it's the most comfortable. The ring I wear is a claddagh (irish) ring, and I wear it with the heart facing out meaning I'm single, but most people don't know that tradition.
