This is a business mixer with a small company that provides me some referral business. I have a personal relationship with the owner and although I cannot attend, I still want to give a gift that shows my support for his business. I know the owner is personally paying for the party, so I thought a bottle of liquor or wine with a supportive card might be a nice gesture...any thoughts ? If that is a good gift for a cocktail party host, how much should I buy? 1 bottle ? Enough for all guests (30)?
A little background, this company is very trendy and holds frequent social gatherings. A lot of networking goes on at these parties.

I would buy a moderately priced wine and maybe a cheese tray from the deli with a card.

ya know what i would get, how about those new bailey's flavors? those would go over great at a party, they have mint chocolate and caramel now. i do like the idea of a cheese platter too, those are always well liked. wine is a hard thing tho, you never know a person's tastes and a bottle is really only good for about 5 glasses or so, so its more of a personal thing than a party. but definitly get a card as well, and personalize it (not just merry xmas from x)

I think it all depends on a balance between the price and what feels right.

i would buy something for the actual host. something they can enjoy on a different night. i would get a nice bottle of wine or champagne. but, also right now you can get the gorgeous gift packs, where they come with nice glassware.

a bottle of wine is always nice. you aren't throwing the party...you don't have to supply for everyone...that would be weird. it's the thought that counts.
