I found tubes of toothpaste/gel in sealed boxes at a friends house and wondered how long after the date code stamped on the box will it be safe to use? The earliest one I found is 2002. None of the boxes or tubes have been opened at all.

The expiration date is there for a reason. The flouride probably isn't as potent as it should be, so the protection from it is lacking. You will still clean your teeth, but not protect them from cavities.

Everything, including foundation, face wash, deoderant, and even toothpaste expires. Look for an expiration date on the tube.

EVERYTHING GETS OLD STUPID...but if you want to brush your teeth with expired toothpaste then go ahead nasty, why can't you buy more instead of wondering why it's old?
That's like saying" i found some juice that expired 4 years ago, but it wasn't opened, can I drink it?"

I wouldn't use it if it has passed the sell-by date.
