I like Aldi's better. We have a Save-A-Lot but we never shop there. I'm not concerned about name brands at all, no matter where I shop. And the quarter for the shopping cart is a good thing. I always have my quarter ready and the parking lot is always nice and clean because everyone wants their quarter back. It's not as tho you're losing your quarter, you do get it back once you put the cart back. The Aldi's next to us also carries fresh meat now, as well as some seafood products. I've found that at our Aldi store there are a lot of things that are better buys than at Wal-Mart, but milk is not one of them. Milk is $1.85 at Wal-Mart and $2.15 at Aldi's. We do most of shopping at Wal-Mart tho. But out of the two given choices, I choose Aldi's any day of the week.

I've shopped at both when I am broke and desperate, and I have to be in the mood. Often, there are arguments in there, crabby people, nutso families of 10 all shopping at once piling 7 shooping carts to the brim....it gets crazy in both stores sometimes (especially Saturdays or days after food stamps are issued) and I just cannot hack it sometimes.
SAL has fresh meat though, and last time I shopped at Aldi all they had was frozen, so I like that option.
A lot of my friends and I drink Jager Bombs too, and someone in the group discovered Aldi has a Red Bull alternative called "Red Thunder" for around $2.99 versus paying $7-8 for a 4-pack of Red Bull....so that's pretty cool too ;-) Now, they just need a sugar free Red Thunder!

I have gone to both and I like both. Yes, Save-A-Lot does have name brands but I have found some of those name brands cheaper at WalMart, mainly cereal. All in all, you need to watch the ads to see what is better, sometimes Aldi's is better than SAL. SAL accepts checks, Aldi's doesn't. Boils down to convience really.

aldi, who needs name brands??
and you get the quarter back after you return the cart. it helps keep prices low, they dont need to employ a cart pusher to clear the parking lot. either the customers do it, or the homeless ppl in the area get the carts that lazy ppl leave behind for the quarter:)

aldi holds the number one position on the list of stores with satisfied customers in germany, its native country- its the most succesful store. ive never been to save-a-lot, but i dont think it has such *prestige* does it? i feel compelled to defend aldi!
