I am looking to market to certain trades in the UK. I have tried the various trade bodies. Does anybody know any other way of finding out the numbers the people within different trades?

You can get the information from census statistics. The collation and summarisation of this information is usually available from a TSO bookshop (i.e. a Government stationary office)

I believe there is one on Lothian Road in Edinburgh across the road from Standard life next to the Usher Hall. Also I know there is one in Bristol near the town shopping centre.

You also might be able to get the information for free in pdf format on the internet.

If the types of business are shops or companies with premises there are a number of different sources for numbers and addresses:

ACNielsen - Market Research Company
Experian - Credit Reference Data
IGD - Food and Grocery Industry body

If you are after numbers only you could try looking at the UK Governments statistics site - www.statistics.gov.uk.

Try the Yahoo! UK & Ireland Directory click down to Food and Beverage and then to Trade Directories. After that a certain amount of googling will find batchers, bakers and probably Candlestick Makers. Otherwise try googling "Meat trade directoriy", "Baking Trade directory", "Candle Stick Trade Directory" or whatever. Yellow Pages (on-line) offer to find particular trades in specific areas, try them

Once you have the info, what is your plan. There are many data providers who can provide such info, which you can use for DM or EM..... Data is not cheap so you do need to consider ROI
