I'm writing a piece on the Christian and Islam faiths. What I need to know is how much in actual facts you know about each faith? Did you learn that from someone who believes in that faith, from media reports,or by finding out yourself? Please be respectful in answering, because I want to know what America thinks about this subject, but I dont want anyone to be offened by anyone else's answers. I want someone to learn something by what i'm doing, and i want that something to be the truth.

That is a very big question!

Christian: I used to be a christian. Studied the bible a great deal and took university courses "Bible As Literature" etc.

Islam: At first I found out for myself. I checked a Qu'ran out of the library during the 1st Gulf War. Then I got to know a Muslim woman in my town. Since then I have found out on my own. I know "the basics" - primarily self taught through books and internet. 5 pillars of Islam, Shiite, Sunni...those kinds of things.

Hope that helps.

I know nothing about Islam. But I do know that to find the truth about christian faith you need to read the Bible. You should also talk with someone who has had faith in God for a long time, they will know alot about the Bible and what it means for them.

The charge that their is a 'family' of Abrahamic faiths should be seen as a secular point of view. The truth about them is that they cannot all be right. They either are all wrong, or only one of them is right. There are too many disagreements between them to conclude that they are 'related' enough to share beliefs.

The Muslims, especially here on Yahoo!Answers are continually using the Bible to explain their position along with the Qu'ran. Yet they say that the Bible is revised and so should not be trusted. And then they ask, 'which one is right' in a rather facetious way. So I ask then, 'well if you believe in the Torah, which one?' And their answer has been a long time coming.

The USA has seen too many examples of Islam in terrorism to trust it. We, as a nation have gotten a tainted view of it by the actions of the radicals within Islam.

YET! When asked about the terrible things that have been done, they tend to skip the question and ask about something that George Bush supposedly did, or what Israel supposedly did; so the question remains to be unanswered; this American view is left with no choice but to conclude that the Muslim's condemnation of Terrorism is by word, never by organization. In other words, their heart is not in it.

Islam in my experience, is a religion that attempts to link itself with the Bible, and yet they don't trust it unless they want to prove something. That is an interesting tactic because they aren't supposed to trust it, Old and New Testaments. They try to link themselves with Judaism by the use of the Torah, and the claim that they are also sons of Abraham through Ishmael. And then they turn a blind eye to the prophecy given to Hagar, Ishmael's mother before Ishmael was even born.

Genesis 16:12
And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

And so we have today. The reason that Ishmael and Hagar were sent away from Abraham's camp? Ishmael was mocking Isaac.

And still to this day, Ishmael is mocking Isaac. The sons of Ishmael are contesting the birthright of Isaac, and troubling Isaac even in these days.

So IF one is to believe God, there is agreement that the the Torah is to be believed, then so should the prophecy concerning Ishmael be believed. That is; he is a wild man, "his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him;"

Islam has been the vehicle and the religion that has manifested their behavior in an organized effort. Muslims are typically complaining about Isaac, that Isaac did something wrong, must be stopped, whatever they do, the 'younger child' not belonging to the land 'he' holds. They mock Isaac, and try to take from them what they think is belonging to Ishmael.

And yet God keeps His word through it all. Isaac is precisely where 'he' needs to be. And all the strife was prophecied long ago. And the coming of the armies to Israel to conquer Israel are prophecied as well. And the Second Coming of the Lord is prophecied to be violent, and in Israel's favor, because He keeps His promise. (Zechariah 14)

I know that I did not focus on a point by point writing of what I know about the two religions. But I do think that I put quite enough together for you to feed on for your piece.

I hope that it helps.

I cannot help you with the Islam faith but all you need to know about Christianity is found in the Bible. You also need a good concordance to help you with difficult Scriptures. There are many good teachers of Scriptures out there as well, but you have to know your Bible, to know if they are legitimate. There are many false teachers who prey on people who don't have any knowledge of Scriptures.

This is a loaded question. When you are asking for facts, what are you wanting facts about, regarding Christianity?

A summary of Christianity is about each and every one of us, all mankind, being able to have a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe and all of the life in it. God created man so that God could have a relationship with someone that chose to want to have this personal relationship with Him. Having given man free will and the power of choice, to choose to turn to God or turn away from God, God has reached out to man to reveal Himself. Apart from the impact of creation, the living world around us, God has revealed Himself to man through the bible. The bible is written by man and authored by God. In the bible God reveals His nature, his heart, His attitude and His perspective regarding man. The bible is full of the truth claims of God and many are testable today as to there validity and consistancy to being true. These are different than the truth claims of men that seem to change based on new knowledge, social acceptance and political environment.

The most important truth claim that the bible makes is that God has reached out to man and made a path for man to be able to know God personally, not just know about Him. This is a gift that is freely given and offered to all mankind without reservation or qualification. All that is required of man is to accept the path that God has made to Him. This is a path established by God not man or mans interpretation of how to reach God.

In the bible one of the truth claims that God makes to man with a promised result is this. If you will seek out God with all that you are mind, body and soul, God will reveal Himself to you. You can begin this journey wherever you are or at regarding location or life, there are no pre-qualifiers. I know about this truth claim personally because this was the beginning of my path to God. I did not care what the truth was and was not invested in the end result, all I wanted was the truth. A truth that would not ever change and did not rely on an idea, concept or belief system. God revealed Himself to me in many real and tangible ways before I could accept that He is who He says He is. Today, I not only know about Him, I actually know Him in person and He knows me.

In Christianity you are accepting that God is who He says He is and humbling your self to do it God's way and not your way. What is so cool about this is that God will personally help you to overcome all of lifes circumstances, even those you have totaly messed up on your own. You are not given a list of things to do to become acceptable or to be able to recieve God's help in your life. All you have to do is ask. God is about having a personal relationship with you not about being "religious" or tied up in ritual. However , like any relationship it takes work. God is always there and available and He lets us choose how close and intimate we really want to get with Him.

It is a scary proposition for most people to think that they can actually know God Almighty, the Creator of the cosmos and all life in it, personally and live through the experience. They would rather have someone else talk to God for them and let them know what He is saying. If we accept the wisdom and knowledge that God has given us in the bible and apply it to our daily lives we will never be the same. There is alot more to this, however this is the overview. If you would like to communicate more feel free to e-mail me.

May God guide and bless you in your search for truth.
