They think it would provide enough electricity for a medium sized city. Good for the enviroment, but bad for the poor islanders.

Very good! While it surely would change the visuals for the islanders (and yes, I do think that is sad) at least they will not be exposed to nuclear waste.
I have seen wind turbines in various parts of Hawaii and California and they are actually kind of cool, in a Sci-Fi kind of way. Make a low hum (not annoying) as they turn and look like a baby giant's wind toys.
If I could afford one, I'd have one in my back yard to supplement solar energy. Get off the grid entirely!

i live in palm springs california. we have hundreds and hundreds of wind turbines here. some naturalist might think they are ugly but most of us think they are neat. we love driving threw the windmill farms. they look cool and they are keeping alot of pollution out of the air.

one thing that people forget is that we are animals, people say that things we build are unnatural, and ugly, but thats what the human animal builds to survive and to make our lives easy and enjoyable. the nice thing about being human is that we can think and be aware of the impact we do on others. sometimes it hurts other species sometimes it don't. sometime we don't know its hurting others till its to late. how many beavers have made dams that have stopped water flow to other parts of the areas down river or streams. they have killed and harmed many species by what they do. do you think they care? they are beavers and thats what they do. its natural and its nature, but because its made of sticks and mud, we as people think its ok. they say, oh its natural.
our species are able to think on a higher level, we can make things on a different scale. but its still all natural, i think that we forget that everything that we make still comes from the earth. even plastic, its all made from materials that are on our earth. now the cool thing about being human is that we can think rationaly to fix things, when we see that we are hurting other aspects of our environment we can educate each other and try to fix the problems that we do, do you think a beaver can start a group to tell other beavers that the dam that they built is hurting other animals down stream, and they need to figure out a new way to build so they can preserve the wild life down stream. we can. so we have lived for along time doing what we do, we are just realizing the impact that our (dams) have had, its going to take time to educate and get 3 billion people to believe that our wasteful live styles are hurting the other animals down stream... and hopefully they won't be like the beavers that don't care.
