This is a common act of the cat. They usually scratch with the help of their lower legs. But scratching until the fur comes off means he/she might be suffering from a minor allergy, not earmites or some thing else. You should sprankle "Clotrimazole Powder" which is being made by many companys example "Frecia" thrice daily. Its anti-fungal & soothing agent with deodorant. You need not woory ur mimmy will be allright...

I would reccommend an ovet the counter earmite medication. And I would also reccommend some type of flea and tick preventitive. Also he might have ringworm so keep and eye on it if he starts losing hair. Also I would suggest to go to a different vet to get a second opinion if he keeps it up.
Merry Christmas

He could have allergies or fleas. I would put him on some flea prevention. Revolution protects against earmites, fleas, and two different types of worms. That could help. If it doesn't, I would ask your vet about allergies. Cats tend to scratch, sneeze, and thier eyes can water when allergy season comes around. This Fall, my 8 month old kitten had really watery eyes and kept scratching. She didn't have fleas, so we figured it was allergies.

If there's a lot of brown gunk in there or a bad smell, I'd try another vet and ask specifically about the ear problem. With mites, cats usually will scratch like crazy if you rub the base of their ears.

Try a different type of ear mite med and take a q-tip and carefully clean her ears out really well with the ear mite meds. If that doesn't help talk to your vet and explain the problem.

Take a look inside your cat's ear. If it looks like there's ground coffee in his ears, then it's ear mites. NEVER use a q-tip to look inside your cat's ears or clean it out...it will only push any dirt or bacteria further down into his ear canal and make it worse. It could be other things like allergies or fleas. I'd seriously consider taking your cat to another vet. Good luck.

My cat had eczema a Dry Skin condition. They prescribed a special shampoo that cleared up and he didn't scratch any more.

It does sound like ear mites but surprised that the vet did not see anything.. Get a q-tip and swab carefully to see if you see anything.. If you even see a black gooey stuff, it is indicative kof ear mites.

Possible ear infection or problem inside its head/brain. Does it seem to be off balance or mixed up at all?
