Yes, and so would you if you're standing under it.

If a tree falls in the forest and no-one is there to hear it then did a tree really fall in the forest?

The key point is does the tree exist as matter without a human consciousness to perceive it or does it exist in an altered molecular state. Does quantum physics and Schroedinger's cat not say something about the state of matter when it is not perceived by anyone. I tend to believe that the tree makes no noise when no human is there to witness it falling.

Yes. I've never understood this question. The impact of the fall would cause a compression of air particles that would move outwardly in waves that would sound like a crash to any ear. The tree falling makes that impact and resulting wave, and not the fact that there is an observer there to witness it.

Sure, a sound is still created by the falling tree striking the ground. Whether there is anyone around to hear it or not doesn't matter.

No, it would create the vibrations we call sound waves but a "sound" is the interpretation of these waves by sensory organs and brain of an audiance. ( saying that there are other things there to hear it than humans is a cop out to avoid the question - what is there is nothing there with the ability to hear).

Of course it does! How ridiculous...Someone hears it! OUR perception of reality isn't the most important you know!! What about all the birds, the squirrels, the other animals, do they not hear? And even if there were no animals,
it would still make a sound.
Life goes on without us.

My question recently was:
If a Terrorist falls in a forest and a liberal hears it, how long will it take the liberal to come to his rescue?
Answer: Too long b/c all the liberals will be stampeding one another to rescue the Terrorist.

No it does not. It creates sound waves, that would only be registered as sound if they encounter an ear or an artificial ear such as a microphone.

It creates sound waves that need a receptor to be heard. Close as I can come to an answer.

It takes an ear for there to be sound...so NO.
But there will be vibration in the air.
