Just be upfront and honest with her.. Tell her that you don't think you guys are a good match, but you do think that shes a great person and you'd like to be friends.

Okay, theres no 'best' way to do this. But there are ways that wont hurt her as much.
Some ways NOT to do this:
Texting-wimpy;; rude
IM/email/internet-wimpy;; rude
Letter/Note-just not ideal way
Detailed ways to do this:
Phone: This is how I broke up with my bf. Tell them how you feel and why you're breaking up with her. Just tell her how you feel, and that you dont have the same feelings for her now.
In Person: This way can be worse, more embarassing for the both of you. Just do the same thing you would do over the phone, only this way can be worse. She might start to cry, you dont know. Just be much more passionate if you choose to break up with her like this.
Good Luck!

There's no way that you're not going to hurt her. If she liked you she will be hurt no matter what you say. The best way to go is tell her how you feel as soon as possible because nobody likes being led on. Just tell her straight up that you just want to be friends. Tell her the truth. She will probably ask why your breaking up with her. Tell her the truth here also. Alright?
Good luck dude,
-Taylor
Remember... Tell her as soon as possible and make sure you do it in person.

Print this out. Stick it in an envelope with her name on it and either stick it in her book or give it to her somehow. Simple as that.
Oh and btw no matter what you do its always going to hurt hte other person's feelings no matter how subtle and nice you are about it. At least the letter will make it easier for you and for her so she can see how you feel.

There is no way to spare her feelings get hurting. Just give it to her straight up.. "I enjoyed our time together but, I just can't picture myself with you anymore.. I hope we can still remain good friends after this. If i've hurt you im sorry and I'll give you the time you need.."

Be honest and tell her that you are not interested in pursuing that kind of relationship anymore and why. It is better in the long run to tell the truth than to string slong someone you have no interest in.
