You should try Guatemala. I recommend it 100%. Once you arrive to Guatemala you will get the surprise of your life. Most people do not imagine what it is. Is the most beautiful country in Central America.
I can suggest going to Antigua. There is a website www.aroundantigua.com There you can find all the info necessary for being there. I can also suggest going to Lake Atitlan. Its one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Located in the highlands of Guatemala, and its sorrounded by 3 imponent volcanoes.
Another great tourist attraction that is worth going to its Tikal. Its better to fly from Guatemala city (a short 30 minute flight) into the Guatemalan jungle (the only true tropical rain forest in central america and its the size of of 3/4 of Costa Rica!). Tikal is one of the biggest mayan cities and its mistique lies on the tall pyramids sourrounded by jungle, where you can admire a lot of animals in their natural habitat. There are more attractions near Tikal that is worth going to.
Guatemala city, which is the main entrance to Guatemala, is the largest and most modern city of Central American. I suggest booking a hotel in Zone 10 (or zona viva). This place is full of restaurants and a good nightlife.
You can also go to Rio Dulce (in the caribbean coast) and to Monterrico (in the pacific coast). Both are paradisiac sites for tourists.
If you want to pamper yourself... you can book a night in Casa Santo Domingo (www.casasantodomingo.com.gt) Its a 16th Century Convent turn into a 5 star hotel. Its not that expensive (around $150 per night in a suite) and its all worth it.
By the way... the best time to visit Guatemala.... for Holy Week... but its not called the land of the eternal spring for nothing.. so all year round you will find great climate.

Santo Domingo is the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European town in the Americas and in the event that you want to see one of many UNESCO World Heritage List then, this hotelbye could be the place. Santo Domingo is just a collection of cultures and neighborhoods. It's where in actuality the sounds of living, domino pieces smacked on tables, backfiring mufflers and horns from crazy traffic. In the heart of the city could be the Zona Colonial, where you'll find among the oldest churches and the oldest surviving European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you will discover Gazcue, one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, filled with old Victorian houses and tree-lined streets.

Try Kumuka Tours: http://www.kumuka.com/South-American-Adventures.aspx. They have plenty of tours in S. America where you don't have to know that much about the area or know the language. Took their 3 week Peru tour and had a blast.

You should go to Argentina. You could learn to Tango and experience a mixture of European culture including German, Italian and Spanaird. The country offers a variety of climates from skiing to going to the beach. They produce a lot of beef and thus they have great BBQ.

I would suggest you go to Bolivia, La Paz, and Isla del sol (close to Copacabana) on the titikaka lake...it is just beautiful, and it is very cheap also. On this island, no cars, just animals like lamas, donkeys, pigs!! I wish i could return there.....
