If you find someone who knows what they are doing and has a lot of experience, they will charge upwards of 1k. You are lucky because a lot of the really great photographers will cost 5-10k for 1000+ photos, prints, etc. It sounds like you got a great deal.

When I first read the question, I thought you meant that you weren't happy with the way your photos turned out and that they were disturbing! LOL Ok, listen, I went through the same thing you are going through. I got married in June. I just told everyone that when I got the album, they could look at it and if they wanted to order some pictures, they could let me know. Then add this part "I am going to get one big order from everyone so that way I can tell each person what they will owe individually and make one payment when I pick them up". Most people assumed they were going to pay for them anyway. Explain to your parents that if the other kids want copies, they are going to have to pay for the extras. Wedding photos are not cheap! And as far as the e-mails go with formatting, tell people that this is the best you can do because you did not initiate the e-mail in the first place! Then tell them to get over it.

We had between 200-300 pictures taken for the ceramony only. The final prints (which where done in like a memory book style) cost around $300, plus $100 for the proof booklet, and about $150 for the photographer's fees.

In a metropolitan area, like Seattle, 300 photos plus the hours of shooting would cost, on average, $2500. The bare minimum I've seen in the Seattle-area is $1500 for 200 pictures/5hours of shooting.
Assuming your pictures are beautiful, you got a great deal!

20 yrs ago we spent almost 3000
so depending on the quality of the photos
i'd say you got off pretty cheap
but also for the 3 grand that also included all the larger photos
the wedding parties pix and the parents photos
if i remember correctly that $1000 is about what we paid for the proofs

2,700 which includes
Engagement photos
Wedding Photos
CD for both events- we own our own photos
And a fancy flush mount album- the story book kind not the old fashion puffy white one.
Your sounds very cheap, the photo shoot alone is $1,000 for NJ.
Mine was the cheapest I could find that would give me the CDs so I an print out my own pics.

My photographer's rates start at $5,500 (NY/NJ metro area). For this you get :
-all day wedding shoot w/ photographer and photog. assistant
-one profesionally bound wedding album of 50 pages
-2 profesionally bound parent albums of 25 pages each
-125 wallet thank you photos
-photo cd
-allowance for prints of my choice, in color or black and white
-digital retouching
I had consultaions with 2 other photographers. One in Manhattan, who charges 5,500 for just showing up! EVERYTHING was extra, you got no album, no parents albums...nothing. The other one was in my hometown (hour north of NYC) and he quoted me at 1,500, for that you got TONS of photos, albums, etc, but his style and mine just didnt "click" even though the price was right. I think the "normal" price of photos varies greatly depending on where you live, and even in that there is a huge difference in prices. It also depends on the style of photography you are looking for. Photo-journalistic style photographers tend to charge more than purely traditional "posed" type photographers. I chose my photographer, not so much based on price, but based on her style, which is a nice blend of both.

We spent 1,700.00 dollars for our photographer. (In Philly, PA)
500.00 deposit to hold the date
This price included full venue photos
House
Church
Park Pictures
Reception
This was excellent since the pictures were of such high quality and not to mention he was a total professional who got along well with my videographer. They were sure to respect each others space while doing there jobs (that was so important)
Go for quality and not price (within reason)
There is nothing worse than not having one of your most important life events captured in a beautiful manner!!!
Good Luck
