Can you buy a dog door and install it in the door you already have, or Do you have to buy a whole new door that already has a dog door? If you can buy them to install do you know how much they usually cost?

There are several places in the "Pet Supplies" section of Shopallsstoresonline.com that have them - I looked a couple of weeks ago and they range from about $20-$50 (depending on size, magnetic openig, etc) - good luck!

My husband install ours at the old place it cost around $300. My dog got to big for the door after a year.

Just an FYI- they range in price. The best ones have electronic collars so that way only your dog and no other animal like the neighbors cat can get into your house. Also if you have a larger door it prevents people from braking in.
I know one someone who had a dog door (the cheap small one) and a stray cat slipped into their house when they were at work. It was a male cat and it sprayed and scratched up their brand new sofa and pool table!!!

There not too hard to install. Home Depot or Lowes has ones with templates. You have to have some tools like a circular or reciprocating saw and a drill. Then you just put the template on the door and cut it out.

You can buy these ready to install in your existing door. Costs should be minimal. Theses things are great. It helped me to train my new puppy when I brought her home and by the age of 3 months, she was totally house broken!

The less stressful thing is to buy an arcadia door insert that has the door built into it at Home Depot. You need an arcadia door to do this.

You can install the doggy door yourself. I bought one for my small dog (under 10 lbs.) on EBay for about $10.
