I always take a map of where I am going. Circle the starting point and the ending point. and Yellow marker the directions on the map.

If you get it verbally from someone I ask for obvious landmarks to help myself. I also like the street name before the one I have to turn on. To help you avoid missing the important one.

Cardinal directions are not always helpful out of your town or at night or on an overcast day.

I will prefer street names and landmarks to cardinal directions in a city, but in a forest, desert, mountainous regions I will definitively prefer cardinal directions.

I like to use landmarks if it is a place which I will be going to quite often. If it is a one time thing I just need directions.

I read somewhere that men are more likely to use street names, mileage, and direction markers (north, south, east, and west) and women are more likely to use landmarks. For the life of me I can’t remember where I read that. It will be interesting to see the results of this survey.

I need street names. Cardinal directions make me confused. I usually get lost if people draw maps for me.

I use a combination of them, you never know when someone forgets to tell you something another person might have the info to stop you from getting lost. I DO NOT follow Yahoo maps they are extremely inaccurate.

Street names. I can always get a map and find out if I am unsure.
