I would get first class (anywhere) if I could afford it.
But for the normal, economy passenger:
Try to get an aisle seat. You can stretch your legs into the aisle a bit; also, you have more access to the overhead bins and lavatories. Otherwise, get a window seat, because I get claustrophobic when I'm in the middle.
The best row is the second emergency exit row (if there's more than one). The first exit row will not recline, but the second one will, and you still get extra legroom.

It depends by the criterion:
for safety the seats near the tail are safer than seats near the nose....
for comfort the best seats are near the center of mass of the plane because you feel less accelerations, but sadly these seats are on the forward part of the wing, so are bad for panorama.
for the panoramic sight the seats forward the wing are probably the best.
I told about passengers seats only because the cockpit is now usually off-limits....but time ago I had the opportunity not only to visit the cockpit, but then the commander invited me to sit in the third seat in the cockpit of 737 during landing at London Gatwick airport, WOOOW!!!!!! I had been very lucky!!!!

Safety wise: Over the wing. This is the strongest portion of the airplane.

Unsafest Place: First class cabin. Most planes are designed to break at this point at impact since it is the weakest part of the plane.

Less Bumpy: In the front. And of course the opposite the back offers the bumpiest ride.

The best for what?
For the smoother ride go just in front of the wing. The back of the plane tends to move more.
For leg room try to get a seat next to the emergency exit doors.
If money is not an isue then 1st class

Best seat is definitely first class but not too close to the bathroom. You can go to seatguru.com for best seats on different airlines.

I am not sure if your question also implies safest seat also. From what I am told, there really isn't a safest seat on an airplane.

the last seat in the plane on the window side the seats are designed to un clip and compress in a frontal crash so the last rows may survive the impact by the soft fluid like cushioning of the other 200 passengers that boarded ahead of you ,, no this is the fact jack

Pilot's seat has the best view, but...

I usually try to pick aisle seats in the middle. I've been on enough flights that I don't need to look out the windows, but I do like having access to the overhead bin and lav without stepping over people.

i could say top quality because of the fact i've got been given a loose uprgrade and that i went interior the direction of the adventure and loved it yet whilst its an economic equipment seat, the closer the extra suitable from get admission to element. as quickly as you land you dont % to be waiting 10 min sweating waiting for sluggish people to flow alongside. i could get some thumbs down yet swifter people would desire to flow up front and the sluggish can take their time. Oh and the window is my renowned, the middle would desire to suck for the reason which you cant flow as sturdy

hopefully a window seat but close to the isle!.. no need to be doing hurdles over people when you wake up not remembering your in an airplane and frantically looking for the washroom;).. but the view is definitely not something to let go if you dont fly often... you feel like your in heaven itself=)

One with enough legroom to be able to kiss your *ss goodbye (if necessary)

No one seat is any safer than another. I prefer exit rows, because if I have the ability to get out, I don't want to be waiting on some dumbsh*t to read the instructions on how to open the door.
