My son is 15 months old. He weighs over 30 lbs, I'll be getting a definite weight when he goes in for shots on January 3rd. I was looking as his current carseat today and it is only up to 40 lbs. I know I have some time, but I wanted to look into getting a new one. I've seen them for 30-80 lbs, and I believe he's big enough. He's over 24 in. tall as well. So, if anyone can give me consumer advice, it'd be great!! Thanks!

I would suggest a booster seat. I worked in Child Welfare for a while, and when we transported kids we used these on kids that weighed more than a regular car seat. They come in a few different forms. One as simple as it is just a bottum cushion, and has two arm rests and uses a regular seatbelt to hold him in. Another form can be it looks just like a regular chair, that straps into the car. These will last him until he's done being in a carseat, and are meant for kids over 30 pounds. The only thing with these are teaching him the importance of not unbuckling his seatbelt. You'll have to go through that at some point, but if you get this seat after a few months when he catches on how to get out, you could find yourself telling him a lot to stay buckled up. But over all these are the best seats to go to from a regular car seat, it will be the last carseat you'll buy for him, and surprisingly they are cheaper than the type he is in now.

Walmart has a ton of child seats.

You can also just get him a booster. I believe 30 pounds is the starting weight on those, and they last clear through until they can wear car seats.

I bought a friend a car seat for her toddler, and i think it was all of 30 bucks and lasted for about 60 lbs, they had others that went higher, but he was a little guy at the time.

Babies R Us is a good place to go. You want to look for a convertible carseat. It changes into a booster at a certain weight. It bought that after my son was out of his carrier carseat that went up to 20 lbs.

I have the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 car seat. It truns into a booster when the time comes, and you won't have to buy another car seat.
