I wa chrsitmas shopping in Bath yesterday when I saw a t shirt which read "I support single mothers" this would have been fine apart from the fact it was written under the image of a naked pole dancer, depicting the "typical" single mother. Women become single paretns for many different reasons and this kind of attitude towards us is degrading and unacceptable. I was outraged, do any of you feel the same way?

Errr, excuse me Megan, so you're saying that because my husband died and I am now a single parent that makes me a stripper? I have a degree in political sciences and unlike you I can actually spell. It's uneducated neanderthal attitudes likes your's that create such ridiculous predjudices in societies.

I am simply expressing my feelings of anger towards Megan and telling her my opinions, as, like you said, we all have the right to do. I happen to feel very strongly about people who have this kind of attitude against women who are raising their children alone and in often very difficult circumstances.

I think it is the wrong impression to give, personally the idea of a pole dancer gives the image of single mumbeing a bit of a "slapper". however although a lot of people do get pregnant from one night stands etc i know of some who were (or thought they were) in a good relationship and it just broke after the baby was born. babies are often seen as a way to make a relationship stronger although in reality they make them so much harder!
Its a shame that people can be narrow minded but its a fact of life. Lets just hope that most people dont think all single mums are pole dancers.
I am married to my daughters father and we are very happy so before someone goes ranting im probably a single mum, im not and im glad because i have the greatest respect for them i dont think i could do it, the pressure is monumental!

This is only a t-shirt. I know myself how hard being a single mother is. It is a lot of work. I hold down a job, have 2 children aged 1 and 2 with no support from my family. I'm only 19 years old. The t-shirt I assume is supposed to be of humorous nature.

I understand why your upset but dont understand why you waste your time on negative feelings. This world is getting too "pc". We are lucky to live in a country where free speech is encouraged. We are living in a time where it is unacceptable to say anything about anyone. Of course any woman can become a single mother through different circumstances. You know this and so do millions of other people. T shirts like this are printed to provoke a reaction. I personnaly dont like the FCUK logo as it just makes you think of the other word, but I would never waste negative energy getting outraged about it.

there are many reasons why people become single parents and one of the least likely is because they are a pole dancer they dont have babys for a living they dance round a pole.
lets have a bit of respect for the single parents who do a great job and also for the pole dancers they are people just the same as the rest and can live there life how ever they choose.
And only people who dont know **** about **** would make coments like a couple on here mentioning no names !!

I used to work in a pub and some of the guys used to say it was the single mother's home, implying all the barmaids were single mums on the pull and looking for a man. It is really hard being a single mum. It was my husband who buggered off, I never thought I would be living the life I am now. I can't see many men buying this t shirt and wearing it to be honest. It makes me laugh at how the politicians say they want 'family ethics' as if they are going to 'crack down' on us poor single mums as if we are a disease, when in fact the politicians themself cannot stay faithful their wives. Good example they are. The reason most women are single mums is because the man has left them that way. Don't you think?

Ok I was a single mom and sadly my body did not hold up well enough to do that kind of job and I don't know that I could have done it even if it had.
However, don't waste your time being offended by the idiot that was wearing it instead take pity on him it seems that he missed a few of his visitation days with his brain cell this year........As my kid brother used to say its all fun and games til someone loses an eye (or someone gets their feelings hurt) and besides what goes around comes around the wearer will get his in the end...

I am not a lone parent but my dad was when I was growing up. It's not just mums that can be lone parents. It doesn't matter what class or status we belong to, we will always judge others in some way. My dad taught me to not worry about what other people think of me, as we are all not perfect and can all make mistakes. He also said the best thing to do is see the funny side of everything.

i think its disgusting as you say there are all different reasons why women become single mum's and no matter what job you take to support your child at least your out there working and not relying on the social to pay for them. some of the people who have replyed to you on here need to have a good look at themselves and the kind of people they are to give such small minded answers lets hope to god they are not bringing up children with those attitudes.

I am disgusted by Megans comments, I really hope she never finds herself in the difficult situation some single mothers face.
The T-shirt doesn't upset me as it is obviously is made by someone with a very warped sense of humour, I saw one in the shops the other day which was only made in the size XXL saying I beat Anorexia! It makes me cringe and feel very sorry for our society that that is classed as fashion or humour.

Actually Yoyo, if you look at the first part of your question, you can't spell!!!
As regards the question, I am not a single parent but I agree with you. Thousands of women become single parents through no fault of their own and for many different reasons. They are not all chavs who just have a baby for the benefits and the council house.
