Would you consider someone who drinks 2- 3 beers a day after work to have a drinking problem?

It's not like a few beers is going to get me hammered. My wife doesnt think it's a problem as far as getting drunk goes she just asked me yesterday how long has it been since I had a beer-less day. Honestly it's been a while, is that a big deal?

It's not like I get home and run straight to the fridge and start pounding em. I usually work out first and when I am done I will have a beer, then we have dinner and I have another. After that I might have one more while watching the news..... does that make me a drunk or sound like a drinking problem to you?

RedEye......first off I was wondering about your name....lol. But, no, tell your wife when you start drinking a 12 pack a night.....or a 30 pack in less than 2 days.....that's a problem....heck......she can have my husband!

Ok, first test yourself and see if you get upset or frustrated if for one day, you dont drink any beer after work. You will find out if you are adicted or not by yourself.

Now, and I am a woman (but French, that helps...lol), I don't see anything wrong with having a beer in the evening after a long day at work, I love to do so myself and I will enjoy it even more if someone is having one with me too.
Your wife is probably more concerned about your health than anything else and this is just showing you how much she cares for you, this is not about trying to change or control you...

Cheers !

Drinking every day is one of the signs of having an alcohol problem. It can be a stepping stone into being an acoholic, but doesn't make you one by itself. Why not try skipping the beer and see how it does? If you get anxious about not having it, you have a problem. If you're ok with skipping it then it's probably not an issue for you.

Alcoholism is a very specific, genetic disease caused by a missing liver enzyme, not a psychological problem with impulse control as society would have you believe. All (active) alcoholics are heavy drinkers but all heavy drinkers are not necessarily alcoholics.

That said, only you can tell if it is having a negative effect on your life. It doesn't sound to me like it is, but you may want to stay aware of your habit and if you find yourself needing more and more beer to get the same effect, it could signify a problem.

Try skipping a day or two and see how you feel. If you can drop it and it doesn't bother you, you should be ok. If you feel sick or shaky or agitated, I'd talk to a doctor.

If you want more information on what alcoholism really is, please read "Under the Influence" by Dr. James Milam (http://product.half.ebay.com/Under-the-Influence_W0QQprZ150521QQtgZinfo) and "7 Weeks to Sobriety" by Dr. Joan Matthews Larson (http://product.half.ebay.com/Seven-Weeks-to-Sobriety_W0QQtgZinfoQQprZ142636). They both offer both clear and comprehensive information which will enable you to tell for sure if you are or not.

It's only a problem if you think that you HAVE to have it.
