What would you think if a family member/friend gave you a nice family portrait of the giver's immediate family(dad, mom, baby) as a christmas gift. It seems strange, and im not really comfortable giving this as a gift.

Its a very nice present for aunts, uncles, grandparents. No I wouldn't tip the photographer, their fees are exorbitant as it is.

I think that this would be an acceptable gift to give another if you are not a financial position to buy gifts. A friend of mine has a new baby and her husband just recently left her so she will give gifts of pictures because she can't afford much else. I think that is acceptable. However, if it is just because the person is too lazy or too caught up in the person in the picture, then no, its not an acceptable form of gift.

I wouldn't see that as a gift as in the only Christmas gift. It's cool to also give those out, but if you are planning to get someone a real gift, then get them something else also.

This would, however, be great for those people you feel you SHOULD give gifts to, but don't REALLY feel you should give gifts to.

tip- no
We always give our parents photos of their grandkids. Sometimes it's a portrait, sometimes a photo album. Last year I gave both grandma's a scarpbook of the kids. They don't NEED anything (soaps, knicknacks, more junk to collect dust) and they really love the pictures.
