The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It's just too long! It doesn't matter that much, but I wish people would learn the difference between the UK and Britain.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mann and the Isles. Is my guess.

I will check...

"United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", so actually I was too precise. Hmm... I guess the full name is never really used.
I suppose we don't ever call the Queen by her full name either:
Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

I think it is just easier to refer to something by it's common name.

Because there are too many names and versions of country groups - England, Great Britain, United Kingdom... I never know which one to use when!
That and the state of education in this country is rather appalling...

Why not just call each country by it's own name, i.e. England (shock horror), Scotland, Wales and Northern / Southern Ireland? There problem solved.

We need our national identity back so let's just be honest instead of turning ourselves into a mini America.
