A dark roasted Colombian coffee is good and strong.

Anything with the description "dark roast," "French roast," or "espresso roast" will be suitably strong. My favorite coffees for these roasts come from Kenya and Sumatra. Almost any coffee shop employee in a store that sells whole beans should be able to help you.

One other thing, if you're buying for a coffee lover make sure you buy WHOLE beans, not grounds. Whole beans hold their flavor much better.

You need to know whether she loves coffee in the sense of being a heavy coffee drinker, or whether she considers herself a coffee aficionado.

If she is just a heavy drinker, go to starbucks.

If she is a coffee snob then you need to get something European (i.e., Illy or Lavazza, Illy has the cooler packaging). You can get them online at Amazon in the 'gourmet food>coffee section. If you must stick with American, get Peets (online at http://www.peets.com). Coffee snobs look down on Starbucks, trust me, I am one and I give a little disapproving tut everytime I pass one.

Lavazza Gold is generally reckoned to be the best coffee available on the market. Failing that, try anything by Illy. You will find them in good Italian delicatessens.

Good luck.

Just get anything that says dark roast or bold. Folgers has a great Columbian Roast. If you are looking for more of a gourmet or expensive coffee, Starbucks is my fav. They have a good bold roast.

I like Starbucks espresso roast. They may have a stronger one. Just look on the label. It will say whether it is mild or bold or extra bold.

Try Barnie's or Joffrey's they both have amazing coffee, and can help you with the selection. Also anything Colombian/South American is really strong.
