Sometimes it will based on your system configuration.Even if you have very low configuration,it will allow youto install but it will run very slowly.I installed XP pro version onto my Pentium III 550 MHz,64MB RAM,10.2 GB Hard disk.It installed perfectly but what happened was the programs ran very slowly. So this is not a good config.A system which is said to be optimum for XP pro edition must have atleast
Pentium III 850MHz or any other equivalent processor.
256MB of RAM
20GBof Hard disk sapce.
With this you can enjoy the optimum performance like good speed and less frequent crashes. The previous answer is good for XP home edition at the first time when you install, but when you softwares onto your computers it will start sucking your memory. So if your computer has the above said configuration then go ahead and install,it will surely support. If you are unsure then give us the configuration of your computer,so that we can help you out.

If you want to upgrade from Win2000 to WinXP, your system should support it just fine, with this exception. WinXP requires more memory to run than 2000. You may need to add to the RAM for it to run efficiently.
