Don't know when it was discovered but to be quite blunt before they did people died!

They were'nt discovered until quite recently but thats a great question because if you ask me it's down to the use of numerous chemicals we are exposed to these days in the home the workplace and the environment and the ingredients in cooking oils and preservatives the whole allergen thing has got out of control and unless all processed foods and ingredients are researched we will continue to suffer from more and more allergies. Our grandparents lived on mainly fresh food and unmodified animal products I bet you never heard the story of Old Great Great Uncle Albert having allergies cos his air was clean and his food was pure. All the cleaning and air freshening products today are probably polluting us as we speak. I was at a concert the other night and they were pumping huge amounts of air freshener over our heads I thought this was mad!!

Nut allergies have probably always been around, but more so now because we eat more of them! People just died I guess, as it affect the bronchial tracts, and you swell up! Fortunately we have medications now, but some people do still die!
