I've had a hard time grasping this here. How is it that you "seek God first"? I'm not even sure how to seek God at all. So, please help. Thanks!
ps - any snary, ill intentioned, rude, and callous responses will all be ignored. anyway, Thanks!

By making supplications (prayers), by reading about him and pondering over His Creations and the purpose He created you for!
hope that helps!

Worship of God includes some main ideas
1. Prayer 2. Sacrifice 3. Giving 4. loving others 5.Music 6. studying and meditating on His words and wonders.
These are some main ideas, and not in any required order there are many other ways one might seek God.

The cool thing is that if you do "seek" the LORD, then you will find Him. That's a Biblical guarantee - so don't have any stress about this at all.
Prayer, reading the Bible (the book of John is a great starting place) and going to a Christian church are all good things to do. Christian radio is good too (check out hischannel.com for internet listening). In fact, much of Christian radio is better than Christian TV.
But what you really need is to meet a Christian who's life has been changed through the power of God. I pray that you will find such a person.
Enjoy learning about Jesus and his unconditional love for you. He died for you - what else could he do for you to prove his love?
God Bless - jn
PS there are also cool websites you could check out, like the source listed here -

Scripture shows us in the Bible that Christ meets a woman at the well...if you are familiar with the story then great if not look at it in...John 4:1-26! In the passage it says that the real worshippers...seekers...seek him in Spirit and Truth! In spirit through faith in Him...One of the answers said that God is Imigary...that is scary! God is real and living...like Billy Graham said, "I can't see the wind, I can see the effects of the wind, but I can't see the wind!" I doesn't mean that there is no wind, just because we can't see it...it is a matter of faith - spirit. Lastly, in truth! Truth through reading the Bible. Scripture says, that Word of God is foolishness to those who don't know Christ in their heart! We have to know Christ as Savior to know God the way God intended! Take a look at the Kristo...I linked it below! I hope this helped!

Pray and ask God to reveal himself to you. Tell God that you are seeking Him and want him in your life. Repent of your sins. The One and Only True God which is God the Father will answer you through Jesus Christ. You must have faith when you pray. Hope this helps.

Read his word (Bible)
Pray (talk to him)
Spend time with his followers.
It looks like God is seeking you or you would not have asked this question. God calls us before we actively seek him. Christ offers a free gift of salvation to all who knock. To follow Christ means you have a relationship with him it has nothing to do with religion. We know him by reading his word his love letter to us the Bible. Praying gets us closer to him just like talking to your best Friend gets you closer to your best Friend. Spending time with his family helps us grow and learn from others he loves.

I am seeking an understanding of why we all seem to think we "need" to have an invisible friend.

Anyone who "seeks" a god will probably find one. There are plenty of them out there and self delusion is such an easy thing to accomplish if you empty your brain of all rational thought. The fact that there are no such things as gods should not prove to be an obstacle in finding one.
