People forget the etymology. A- means "without". If atheists hated God, they'd be called antitheists. The term atheist implies neutrality on the subject.

You've got me. God doesn't exist, I don't care, so what's the point in wasting my energy hating something that I don't think exists and don't really care to worry about? I don't see the point in it.

It's possible that some people have a "if you're not with me, you're against me" sort of attitude, that if you're not with God, you're against God, and if you're against God, you must hate him. Weird logic, doesn't make any sense to me, but I've unfortunately known and am related to people who think that way.

I don't hate God, but I suppose if someone were to think I did, that's my best guess as to how they came to that conclusion. It's not true, but, I've seen some people think that way. Go figure.

It is, of course, impossible to hate something that you know doesn't exist. However, some people are so completely deluded they not only believe in a god or gods, but are absolutely convinced everybody else shares the same belief, and if they claim not to they're just lying.

We can't. I'm an atheist and I don't hate God (it would be ridiculous) but sometimes it irritates me that people believe in all those things. However I accept God as an element of faith which helps people to muddle through life.

I am a atheist, however if I was ever to find out he was real, and he was exactly like the god described by Christians, then I would hate him.

I don't hate any gods or leprechauns. I do have a very dim view of believers. Based upon the ignorant nonsense posted in Y/A, the view is getting to the point that I have no respect for them at all.

They can't hate something that they don't believe exists.

That supposition is merely a strawmen that poor thinking religious people bring up. Any sensible religious person ;) would not make that argument.

Well put.
After all, there isn't a single shred of credible evidence to support the existence of any magical sky-pixie.
They are imaginary, nothing more.
The next person that can provide proof of it's existence, will be the first in history to do so.

I don't hate god, because he's not real to me. I hate the idea of him and the fact that so many people believe it without any sort of merit, when they could possibly so much happier without it.
