It depends on how big of a roast it is ? If it is a small roast I would say just a few hours! Or when meat is not pink anymore.

half the time if calls for on low. So 7-8 hours on low is 3.5 - 4 hours on high...

If you want your roast tender and moist, don't cook on high. If you have to, cut the time in half.

what kind of meat is it ???
the only meat i can think that require that long it could be lamb or gammon;if its so you cant cook it for any less.or you can but it want be the same recipe then.
