Because Hitler wanted peace. A piece of France, Austria, Belgium, Russia, Greece... eventually the world. WWII was just a continuation of the WWI. Germany was trying to recover from their loss. Sanctions against the country caused skyrocketing inflation. So, in order to survive, they started up the war machine. If you want to see an excellent documentary on the subject, check out World At War. You should be able to borrow it from your local library. It is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen on WWII.

Some of the answers are good and some are asanine. The Treaty of Versaille which limited German power is a starter. In 1929, the Wall Street Crash created a situation whereby the German Economy fell through the floor. Hitler, whose mother was Catholic and father Jewish, was a little pissed off. Obviously. He won two Irpn Crosses for his activities during WWI. German pride and nationalism, despite him being Austrian, created a situation where the people were happy to think "why should we put up with this ****". The main reason for his attacks on Poland et. al is resources. Germany has a lot of coal but does not have much iron and therefore to expand his empire he needed resources. There is little difference between his imperialism and that of other historical empires. It's all to do with history. Try reading Merriman's "History of Europe: Renaissance till the modern time" to get an idea. Germany as a country has only existedsince 1869. It's younger than the US. I could go on, but wont.

We are all made to believe it was for two major reasons.

1. For the Germany's invasion of Switzerland, which is regarded as a neutral country and;

2. To save Jews from extinsion.

The big question is why didn't the allied countries invade Germany before 1944 even though Hitler had attacked several other countries before then? If the actual intention was to save the jews from extinction, why didn't the allies act before 1944? What we know is that there was this resilience from individual countries that were attacked by the Nazis to defend themselves, there wasn't any unified action until late 1944 when America criminally dragged into the war. The conference in Iran to review the history of the holocaust is good response not to only the spurious claims being made by the jews, but at least to let the world know why it happened.

There are many reasons. One of the main ones is that after World War I, the Treaty of Versailles made Germany pay reparations to France and Britain. Germany was also required to get rid of most of it's military, the German economy went down the drain and Germany quickly went from a Democracy to Socialism, thus leading the way for Hitler to spread his propaganda and ultimately Hitler invading Poland in 1939.

You can probably trace this down to after the war , to when they forced Germany to pay war reparations , it brought the economy to a fall where if the mark was worth a dollar in the morning ,it was only worth a dime by noon and a penny by dusk . Than Hitler came on seen along with several different parties , but his won as he had more seats than the next group, eventually promising a solution ,while lying to other countries.

the european nations at the time, around 1936ish practiced a policy of appeasement, because they were still reeling from the horrors of world war 1
after hitler repeatedly making threats against surrounding nations, demanding first equal rights for the "german" people in their countries, then straight up bullying them for land
british prime ministier nevile chamberlein declared that they had created "peace for our time", as they kept on giving and giving to a crazy man (hitler) who was more than happy to keep on taking
finally im pretty sure it was after churchill came hitler declared war on poland and the world witnessed the furious german blitzkrieg....
so then basically everyone said screw this its enough and declared war on hitler, which sparked world war two

Because Hitler wanted to rule the world and wipe out the Jewish population. He started by invading Poland in 1939

America did not join in until after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in December 1941

When I did a report on Hitler for a History class in college, I read where he was very distraught with Germany surrendering in WWI and blamed the Jews. He slowly and methodically came to power in Germany and had his opponents or anyone who disagreed with his ideas slowly taken away never to be seen again.
He continued on with his domination and extermination of the Jews and anyone who aided them. With his invasion of Europe particularly London, he started something he later would regret. He also screwed up when the U.S. entered the war by declaring war on us. He then attempted to take on Russia in the middle of winter with no proper clothing for his troops.
He was a genius in the intellingence aspect, however he was also completely crazy at the same time.
He did make one very good statement when he said something like (I want world peace forever), however he also followed up with something like (under the rule of Germany). Wrong idea Adolph.
