First off are you worried your husband cheated and apparently do not trust what he said regarding it being poison oak?Genital herpes is a viral infection that causes clear blisters on the skin of sexually exposed areas.they appear approximately 3 to 7 days after an initial exposure to herpes. Many men experience mild symptoms, which resolve spontaneously. Others can develop severe bouts of painful blisters on the penis that can be accompanied by fever and headache. Once a herpes infection occurs, it is life-long and can be characterized by recurrent sporadic outbreaks. The outbreaks occur because the dormant HSV is activated. Outbreaks occur at different rates in different individuals. The recurrences can be associated with stress or other infections. They also occur with increased frequency in those who have weakened immune systems.Several antiviral drugs have been used to treat HSV infection, including acyclovir, famciclovir, and valacyclovir. Although topical (applied directly on the lesions) agents exist, they are generally less effective than other medications and are not routinely used. Drugs used to treat herpies are: Acyclovir,Famciclovir, and Valacyclovir all of which are antiviral.
Prednisone {oral} is in a class of medications called corticosteroids.Prednisone is can be used to treat severe allergic reactions
So ask yourself this, do you trust him and what he's told you. And why is it only on his penis did he mow the lawn naked?

Prednisone sounds like a strange drug from poison oak, but the internet encyclopedia says it's good for poison ivy, so I guess it makes sense.
It's quite likely that your hubby touched poison oak and then touched his penis before washing his hands or he could have even just touched his penis to something while peeing in the woods.
I don't see anything about Prednisone and STD's and your hubby would really be lucky if herpes went away in a few days.
I guess his doctor can't tell you anything, so since you don't whant him to spread anything to you, why not ask your own doctor?
Prednisone is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant and affects virtually all of the immune system. It can therefore be used in autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases (such as severe asthma, severe poison ivy, and Crohn's disease), various kidney diseases including nephrotic syndrome, and to prevent and treat rejection in organ transplantation.

Herpes clears up within a few days, so the prescription wouldn't have anything to do with that. In my opinion unless he was mowing naked there's no way he could get poison oak on his penis. Most likely it is something else. If you are his wife then you should have gone to the doctors with him. Nothing should be hidden from a relationship, even things that you find out at the doctors. You might want to go get tested just in case, because it is possible that you could be a carrier. If you are you wouldn't have any symptoms of it, you would just be able to pass it on to other people without knowing.

Sounds like it could be poison oak. I think a doctor would have given him something else for an STD, and poison oak has a nasty way of finding your private parts and making them itch. I'd believe him, unless you have other reasons not to.

Poison oak isn't usually going to cause redness and bumps in just one specific little spot, he'd have other rashes from where the oil made contact with his skin, too. What was he doing, mowing the lawn naked and went for a frolic in a patch of poison oak? Insist he be screened for HSV-1 and HSV-2. The steroid very well could have reduced the immune response by herpes.
