My recipe calls for instant espresso, but no one carries that where I live. Would instant coffee taste the same?

Great question! Though it may not taste exactly the same, use the darkest roast of instant you can find and use double the amount . Do not increase the amount of liquid to compensate - this will give you the higher concentration of coffee oils that you would normally get with Espresso Powder. I think this will work just fine.

You could use regulat coffee but you'd be better if making a pot of extra strong coffee. Substitute the extra strong coffee for the water in your recipe. Instant coffee comes from first brewing coffee and then dehydrating it. Using coffee grounds straight up will give you a different flavor in the end and will require more than 2 teaspoons. If I rembemer right 2 tspn instant = 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup of grounds.

It's a fine substitute. It just won't have the kick and strength of espresso. Still leaves a good coffee flavor.
