I have a few crowns on each upper side in my mouth, and the black part of the crown is showing.
The gum has receded back a bit, and it's really unattractive.

Any good ideas about how that is gotten rid of?

I whitened my teeth at home this week and now the crowns look yellower and more noticeable.

Thanks!

Bleaching solutions will not bleach any restoration you have in your mouth, such as fillings, veneers and crowns. As for the visible collars on your crowns, theres not so much you can do, as recession is irreversible.
Any options you choose need to be done once you are happy with the shade you reach with the at home bleaching, as any new crowns wont go any whiter than the shade they are made to be.
You may be able to get a dentist to re-porcelain the existing crowns to a better shade, which could also cover the black lines, depending on how much your gums have receeded and a couple of other factors. Reporcelaining isn't always possible because not all dental technicians will do (or are able to do) this procedure.
Otherwise, it's new crowns, I'm afraid.

Most crowns that are done on the mid-back and back teeth are porcelain-fused-to-metal ones. Metal part inside provides the strength to the structure, porcelain rovides esthetics. If your crowns are few years old the metal part touching your gums will oxidize and create unattractive dark line at your gum line. The only solution is to replace the crown with all-porcelain (which is not as strong) or Captec (porcelain-fused-to-gold) crowns.
