what is the difference between engagement and wedding rings,,i mean how can you tell this is a wedding or engagement ring by just looking at them...

The engagement ring is worn until the wedding. After the wedding ring is placed on the finger the engagement ring is placed on top.
Sometimes couples use the same ring for the engagement period & as the wedding ring. Usually a stone on a wider band.
And yes, if you want you can get your fiance an "engagnement" ring. Some men opt to wear a wedding band in lieu of anything else to show he is indeed betrothed.
But the man would not wear the engagement ring after the wedding.

A wedding band is just plain gold, sometimes with a few diamonds imbedded into the band for a woman, and lately, sometimes for a man. A traditional engagement ring is a solitaire, but sometimes flanked by smaller shoulder stones.
Don't like the idea of a guy getting an engagement ring, it's silly.

You can do whatever you want. Traditionally the engagement ring is given just to the bride and it has a diamond solitaire. On the wedding day, the groom gets a band and the bride will get a band to wear with the engagement ring.
We went a totally different route and had my engagement ring be a mobius of 100 saphires on yellow gold. My wedding band is rose gold. I don't wear them together, but change them out depending on what color gold I'm wearing that day.

An engagement ring has the big diamond. A wedding ring is usually a gold band, no diamonds. There are many, many kinds of rings.
Some women decide to propose to a guy, but that isn't very common.
