I have a double door frost free refrigerator..being a vegetarion i only have some vegetables and mik which are cool enough after being refrigerated the whole day..by switching off (no one opens the friddge in the night) between 10 pm and 6 am(i wake up then)..i will definitley save a lot of electricity..i have seen that fridge is cool enough in the morning too..all i want to know is if my cooling needs are met will switching off harm the refreigerator if switched of every night(everyday)

I don't think the issue is as much cooling as removing moisture from the fridge compartment. If you shut down your fridge at night, even if the temp doesn't rise as much, the moisture level does rise. And all that moisture would need to be balanced off once you plug the fridge back in in the morning, meaning your compressor will be working overtime to get the fridge back to the right temp and moisture level.

And if, as you say, you don't open your fridge at night anyway, the compressor shouldn't run all that much overnight.

So, unplugging your fridge at night will produce a minimal savings, if at all. Just leave it plugged it and you won't have to worry about moldy food in the morning.

If you really want to save money, find a more energy-efficient fridge. If your fridge if over 10 yrs old, the new ones will definitely use less electricity over time, saving you some money.
