They are burning more calories than they eat. Which probably means, without exercise, they cut calories. That doesn't have to be too hard unless you already eat a super low calorie diet. Women can cut down to 11 or 1200/day--high fiber, low fat calories. Men can cut down to about 1600/a day, also high fiber & low fat. Then it's possible to lose weight.
But why wouldn't you want to exercise? It can only help for the most part--it helps you burn more calories and lose more weight faster, plus it is great for your body and muscles and overall health to be in shape.
