I like Doctor who and have always been a fan (of the new series didnt pay much attention to the old ones)

And ive watched Torchwood lately but ive noticed it seems to write off the whole Heaven and God Issues. Claiming that when people die they just go into a world of Darkness. However In Doctor Who the Doctor came face to face with the Devil And he even entered Hell or another world believed to be hell but he claimed that the Devil was just an Alien and He decieved us all by making us believe in religion or somthing like that!

As A Christian i am offended by all this and think it is a selfish point of view from the Director or script writer. People Tend to find it easy to insult Christians yet they are always carefull not to slag off Muslims why is that eh!!!????

Sounds like, Yes Mr Davis is showing Atheist opinions
As far as why people aren't scared of offending Christians, it's because in general Christians don't go around lopping off heads over being offended.

To everyone else that answered before me, I also find it curious that when a Christian is offended by something, it's blown off. But let any other religion ( or non-white for that matter ) get offended and it has to become a national dialog

Ok...the devil...that was in Dr. Who was an alien species that had been enslaved in a pit and if you think of the way Dr Who is written then the stroy could have traveled the universe.

In Tourchwood, it was mentioned twice that when you are dead there is darkness, but it was also mentioned that something or someone was moving towards and that someone was unpleasent or evil.

Also, if such things has time tavel and skipping between different dimensions, etc. were to be possible, then surely that will disprove the existence of God.

It is also a piece of Science Fiction with no room for preachy religious sentimentality.

Also...if you are offended by it, don't watch it...simple has that.

Or maybe you can watch it for what it is. A story, a piece of escapism not to be taken seriously but to be enjoyed for 45 minutes or so.

So...you know...take a chill pill, relax and just enjoy the show and don't try and read too much into.

Umm its a work of science fiction you don't have to take it to seriously just enjoy it for what it is and be glad the good doctor is back to save the universe!
on the same point did you see the BBC movie staring Christopher Eccelstone where he play Christ coming back to a contemporary London? It was made by the same people who have revamped Dr Who. So maybe they do have a religious agenda or slant to there programs.

I am a Christian. One of aspect of my faith is that we should not allow ourselves to be offended. That is a kind of judgement, one we do not have thr right to make.

If a non-Christian writes a TV show or movie, why should we expect that show or movie to represent Christian values? We have the choice. To watch or not to watch. That is a question of personal faith. In other words, if you think it is OK to watch something that represents a view contrary to Scripture, because it is a work of fiction, for you it is OK.

If, on the other hand, you feel that by watching that show you are compromising your beliefs, then for you it is not OK. The person with one view cannot judge the person with the other.

There are enough programmes that make reference to God and religion, heaven and hell. It's nice to see an alternative viewpoint for a change.

The thought that there is nothing after life isn't exactly radical though, is it? It's just an alternative. If you are really delicate enough to be offended by it, don't watch it.

Oh please.

FICTION.

Look it up.

And if you noticed, he listed a whole bunch of religions on "The Impossible Planet", not just Christianity.

If you get so easily offended by fiction, I suggest you build a little bubble and live in it, because gods know that there are other things out there that are going to "offend" you.

What the hell has a fictional TV programme about aliens and sci fi generally got to do with religion in any of its forms.

Russell T Davies rocks.

Dr. Who is a made up story that has had many writers over the years, each with their own agenda. Stop focusing on what is not real and focus on reality.

The way I see it. I love Doctor Who and I really like Torchwood. There are some Christian themes you might find in story lines of Doctor Who. I don't have any right off the top of my head but I agree with some other Christian monitor websites who have said the same thing. This goes for Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry who was an Atheist like Steven Moffatt and the others. Gene Roddenberry created a great work of art, and I just take the art for what it is. Roddenberry was an interesting guy who led an interesting life and did a lot of interesting things. I also heard he could be a good guy but also a dick. He cheated on his wife, didn't pay any attention to his son Gene jr. and he fought with his writing staff. But the show was a great idea with great characters. I love Star Trek as well.

its like going to an art museum and seeing a beautiful painting or sculpture, gazing at it...and saying, wow, how inspirational, what a work of art. Then you go home and google the artist and get a book on the artist and find out he or she is an atheist or WAS centuries ago.

Well the art still inspired you and made you happy....but chances are the artist is in not a very nice place right now, if you believe in Heaven and Hell....or they are sitting it out in Pergutory if that is a true thing.

With Torchwood, they die and they say they are nothing there. If they die, and see that there is supposedly nothing there, then they must be concscious. sitting in the dark and noticing there is nothing there.....Why wouldn't they be unconscious or just plain not exist anymore, there for not notice how "dark it is"....

some of these guys and gals on these shows, these characters might not exactly lead Christian lives or moral lives....so they aren't exactly floating out of their bodies to the bright light, They are no sunday school teachers, lets just say..

But some of them come back to life anyways...and if they were someone who was going to be sent back here from the hereafter....then why would heaven or hell claim them, if they are just going to be tossed back into this world anyways...

Plus if they were in darkness, it couldn't be pleasant, it would be like they are a lost soul, that could drive someone stir crazy and feel like a hell after awhile, if they are in fact still conscious, but out of their bodies....If they don't have a clear conscience then they will sit there feeling a lot of guilt and remorse sitting in dark solitary confinement long enough,...even though its not the firey pits of hell....
That's what I think.

I find Torchwood entertaining. More so with Doctor Who. the doctor explains a lot out there with science. per haps science can explain still things we don't know about the universe that we that were magic and miracles...which doesn't mean God doesn't exist....There might just be more variables out there than we know about....in real life..and in the fictious world of doctor who,...that affect our lives.

I will still remain a doctor who fan, a Trek fan as well as still watch Torchwood and laugh at the Doctor and Capt Jack's antics and enjoy watching their heroic deeds.

Often the Doctor exposes things that are good or evil....things people think are Gods which are really false Gods...Our God would be pleased with that if the Doctor knocked down a Pagan god as some supernova or black hole...or sending Satan into a black hole. again, God would be pleased with that as well... god must be on his side with all the fateful and coincidental things he has accomplished on this show. If someone like the Doctor has that much influence on time and space, some divine hand must be helping him I feel sometimes.

I think also no matter how far you travel through time and space you won't actually run into God until you die anyways.

The Doctor also mentions parallel universes that are not easy to travel to...Perhaps playing by the Doctor Who rules...heaven or hell can be parallel universes impossible for the Tardis to reach, but you would have to die in order to go to...He said you cannot easily get to the parallel universe or else you would tear a big hole that could not be repaired...if someone tried to tear a hold between heaven and earth for example that would be bad...unless God wanted that done in the apocalypse or something like that if you believe in it.

Those are my theories and how I as a believe in God make peace with these things.
