I hate what happen to your be loved pet. You seem to have love the K-9 very much. But to answer your question. There are many things that could have happen. Story- My husband had a beautiful K-9 that he took to the vet. And because it was a way from James (husband) he barked him self to death.......And it only took over night for this to happen. But for your K-9 to have seized and then death followed. Yes a tumer can make this happen. And also bad genics. I breed Reg Boxers and I breed just the very best so no bad gens can be past on... But if I was you I would look up the K-9s files on all health problems and see if he or she fall under any of the signs.

If blood and urine were both normal, it could still have been a cancerous tumor or a liver shunt-both these diseases can be missed depending on the type of blood work done and won't show up on urine. No way to know for sure without doing a necropsy (like an autopsy), but these are generally pretty expensive and need to be done immediately after death occurs.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is always hard, but I think it's even more painful in a situation like yours. You weren't there and don't really have closure.

I would find a way to say goodbye. Have a little memorial, visit some of the places you liked to go together. Maybe write a letter to you pet, telling him how much you loved him and miss him.

Take care and when you feel ready, maybe think about adopting another dog.

I recently had to put my 15 year old golden retriever down. He was my best friend also. Similar thing happend to him, he had a seizure and lost his mind, he did not know who any one was and was tring to bite anyone who came near him. He has never bitten anyone in 15 years, I came and callmed him down and he knew who and where he was again. But the vet said he would just have another siezure if we did not put him down. So we had to do it. He had tumors all over his body, and old dogs, pass we just need to remember the time we had with them. But your vets is correct most likely a tumor. You shouldnt kennel you dog unless its the only way, but should never kennel an old dog. Sorry for you loss.

If your dog was having problems that you suspected could be something more before you left you should have gotten a second opinion, before leaving him for boarding.
Your dog was in the safest place he could have been for such a situation and although bad things happen it is not neccesarily anyones fault nor does any actions need to be taken.

some thing is wrong, tumours dont develop overnight. Peeing could be because of weak bladder or he couldn't retain for a long period at the same time u say he use to drink lot of water.

If i were you i would dig deeper. Somehow i dont trust boarding kennels. He could have picked some infection. The kennelowner are not levelling up.

Who knows. Anything could have been wrong. Wait a while and get a new puppy. That sounds mean but its really not. I know that you want your old dog back, but sometimes a new puppy can take your mind off of it and make you feel like you have a freind even though you just lost your best.

Might have been cushings disease with complications like diabetes, or just plain diabetes. Maybe look those conditions up on the net. I'm so so sorry for your loss.
