The Old Testament is what Christians refer to as the "Old Law". This is, basically, the Jewish faith. In the Christian bible, there are 46 (according to Catholic tradition) books in the Old Testament, including Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, the Psalms, Proverbs, stories of the patriarchs and the prophets. It is in the Old Testament that G-d gives Moses "the law". Many have shortened this to the Ten Commandments, but there are many, many more than this. Under this law, when a person "sinned" in a relatively minor way, i.e. gossip, overeating, being spiteful, etc., they were required to bring an offering to the priest, such as a dove, a ram, or a bull. This was to atone (make up for) sin. When a person committed a mortal sin, there was no atonement. The person would have to be stoned to death. This included sins such as not honoring the Sabbath day, believing in other than the one true G-d, committing adultery, murder, etc. In the Old Testament, the prophets tell of a Messiah that will come to save. Those of the Jewish faith are waiting for the Messiah. Those of the Christian faith believe that Jesus was this prophesied saviour. The New Testament is made up of the story of Jesus' birth and ministry and crucifixtion. There are also many letters from the earliest Christian Church leaders such as Peter and Paul. The New Testament indicates that since man could not seem to abide by "The Law", Jesus offered his life as the atonement for our sins. In this way, man can have the relationship with G-d that was intended for us at the creation. Basically, we are, once again, in good graces with G-d.

The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and Aramaic; it is also called the Hebrew Bible or Tanakh. The Old Testament contains several covenants God made with certain individuals, such as the Mosaic Covenant, the Davidic Covenant, the Noahic Covenant, etc. There are several books containing Jewish history, such as Esther. God also tells us in the Old Testament that, some day, He would send His Servant to bring the New Covenant to humanity.

The New Testament was originally written in Koine Greek (a common written language back then, that was understood by folks from many different nations); it documents Jesus' conception and birth, the last three years of His life, the actions of the early Church, and provides spiritual guidance to Christians through writings of prophecy and wisdom. The New Testament contains the New Covenant, brought by Jesus Christ to reconcile sinful humanity -- Jew AND gentile -- back to God.

I hope this helps. Peace.

The term Old Testament refers to all versions and translations of the Hebrew Bible and is the first major part of the Bible used by Christians. It is usually divided by Judaism into the categories of law: Torah; prophecy: Neviim; and writings: Kethuvim (history, poetry, wisdom books); as denoted by the acronym Tanakh.

The New Testament (Greek: Καινὴ Διαθήκη), sometimes called the Greek Testament or Greek Scriptures, and sometimes also New Covenant which is the literal translation of the Greek, is the name given to the final portion of the Christian Bible. It was written by various authors after c. 45 AD and before c. 140 AD. Its books were gradually collected into a single volume over a period of several centuries. The New Testament is more or less the root of the Christian religion, which has played a major role in shaping modern Western morality and culture.

The New Testament (Biblical canon) are twenty-seven separate works: they consist of the four narratives of Jesus Christ's ministry, called "Gospels"; a narrative of the Apostles' ministries, which is also a sequel to the third Gospel; twenty-one early letters, commonly called "epistles" in Biblical context, which were written by various authors and consisted mostly of Christian counsel and instruction; and an Apocalyptic prophecy, which is also technically the twenty-second epistle.

Basically the Old testament is the basis for three of the major religious factions, Christians, Muslims(Koran) and Jews(Torah). Or rather the old testament is actually derived from the Torah (as it was first) then the Koran. They are the original texts and documents pertaining to the creation of earth and man and his/her relationship with "god".

The new testament is a compilation of stories and letters gathered together to form up a continuing narrative and to act as a guide to understanding who and what Jesus was all about.

The old testament is also known as the BC era. BC standing for "Before Christ." This is a time that led up to the birth of Christ. The New Testament is the era known as AD which stands for Anno Domini or "In the Year of our Lord" and encompasses all time after the birth of Christ.

The old testament is the prophetic story of God's creative work, man's rebellion, and God's promise of future restoration and redemption.

Th new testament is the real life, truthful account of how that redemption actually took place, and the prophetic story of the future and eternal effects of our restoration, in Jesus Christ.

The Old Testament is all about the Law of Moses, whereas the New Testament is all about the Grace of Christ. (Generally speaking)

The new testament is when Jesus was born and the time he lived and died and then also when he went to heaven and depended on his disiples to continue with the teachings
