Is there any cheap home phone services around $20 a month. I don't need long distance or anything.

I recommend tmobile's pay as you go. It's a prepaid cell phone plan. If you put in $100 then the rate is about $0.10 a minute. It may cost more than a landline, but it's portable.

In my case, it costs me $200 a year because I hardly use the phone. Best thing I ever did for myself, because before I had to pay $50/month for basic phone with long distance and also a multitude of unknown stupid fees. $50x12 - $200 = $400 savings, for me anyway.

I purchased my used phone from a local wireless mom & pop store, not a national chain store, for about $25. Bought the $100 and then bam, I had phone service.

Where do you live? In some states (not all) you can go through Sage Telecom--inexpensive as all get out AND quality service.
