I agree in the sense that religious people seem to feel a need to be told how things are, and to use wishful thinking instead of reason.

I believe this bumper sticker hits the nail on the head - particularly when it comes to monotheism. By its very nature, it creates a parent/child relationship.

God is all powerful and tells you what to do. He sets up very specific rules and regulations that you must abide by. If you do, you are rewarded. This would be described by modern psychologists as "positive reinforcement." But if for some reason you are incapable of following certain rules because they go against who you are - as is the case with homosexuality - then you are severely punished. "Spare the rod, spoil the child," as our Victorian forebears used to say.

The problem with this construct is that eventually, we all grow up. For some, it takes longer and sometimes never happens. But a greater number of people will eventually grow into being spiritually a teenager. That normal stage in life, let alone in our spiritual development, demands that we examine everything. It's a very important stage of both physical and spiritual development because through this, our species is able to adapt and change. Unfortunately, there is nothing in monotheism to accommodate this natural and necessary developmental change. This is usually the time when people leave the church.

At some point, we form our own personal belief system once we've traversed teenage-hood. When this takes place, the vast majority become agnostic, atheist, or learn to develop a more satisfying and adult relationship with the divine.

It is unfortunate but monotheism, in my humble opinion, cannot accept or accommodate an adult relationship with the divine. So in the end, no matter what happens, monotheism is usually left behind.

My mom had "The talk" with me. It was so ... Awkward 😂😭 but trust me you do need the talk if not from your mom from someone of authority or you'll be running around with your vagina scretched so far you can fit a mop in there. She just told me the basics like "Do it with someone you love and use protection always and don't have sex in highschool" stuff I kinda already knew. Well, i'm assuming that's what she wah saying I wasn't really listening because I know to use protection if I even want to have sex like I know not to let a guy use me and wait until when I'm ready.

Last time I checked, there were thousands upon thousands of senior citezens that are Christians. So what are you implying? That we are all children and that we believe whatever someone tells us? So who told you that we are little children who need to grow up? A bumper sticker? Someone needs to check their facts rather than believing what an inadimate object says.

By the fact that you believe a bumper sticker, without actually taking any time to look into your question, is a bit childish.

I simply think there are a lot of bumper stickers out there to get your attention. On this one, I personally don't agree.

Einstein viewed the belief in a personal god as 'childlike', so anyone supporting that statement is in some very good company..

I find that people often learn a religion in childhood and never question it in adulthood, so that makes sense to me.

Most people would be referring to fairytales with that quote, which I understand as well.

I disagree, at least as regards true Biblical Christianity.

"And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelizers, some as shepherds and teachers, with a view to the readjustment of the holy ones, for ministerial work, for the building up of the body of the Christ, until we all attain to the oneness in the faith and in the accurate knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown man, to the measure of stature that belongs to the fullness of the Christ; in order that we should no longer be babes, tossed about as by waves and carried hither and thither by every wind of teaching by means of the trickery of men, by means of cunning in contriving error. But speaking the truth, let us by love grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ. From him all the body, by being harmoniously joined together and being made to cooperate through every joint that gives what is needed, according to the functioning of each respective member in due measure, makes for the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love."

I thought about making one that said

"Universal Unitarianism: Like Religion, but for Adults".
